Two-way chat: Two-ways can be more than just a text-to-speech app
A two-way conversation is an interactive way to communicate and is a useful tool for many people.
It’s not necessarily a one-way street, either, with people sharing ideas, sharing their experiences and sharing their thoughts.
“We’re just getting to a place where we can start talking with people in a way that’s not just text-based,” said Michael Schulman, co-founder and CEO of OneLogin.
“Text-based conversation is the way to go.”
But that’s just one way of looking at it.
There are other options, too.
There’s also the two-person chat platform, which allows two people to chat together using voice commands, as well as chat apps like Facetime and Kik.
The former is available in Canada, the latter in the United States.
A big challenge is convincing users to embrace it.
OneLogin’s chief technology officer, Matthew Dolan, says the company is currently experimenting with the twoway chat and other platforms and is looking into what’s next.
“It’s a bit of a nascent area right now.
We’re not going to be launching a product until we’re in a better position to show people what we’re doing,” he said.
It would take a lot of testing and iteration to get a product to market, he added.
That’s one reason why OneLogin has been experimenting with different platforms in the past.
“I think that when you talk about the evolution of these two-ways platforms, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re just starting to see the impact of what we’ve done,” he added, noting that this is not an automated conversation system, nor does it involve two people sitting in a room talking over a speakerphone.
“There’s going to always be some learning curve, because you’ve got to make it look nice.
You’ve got two people talking over the phone, and you have to do it in a fun way.”
It’s also going to take time.
“A lot of people say, ‘Well, we want to do one-on-one or two-on/three-on and we want them to be friends.’
That’s a different story,” he acknowledged.
One of the most common complaints from users is that the two way conversations don’t feel as real as they should, which is why OnePassword’s Schulmans said he’s looking into the potential of two-Way chat.
“People say they like their text-only experience, and then they want to use two-step verification.
What we’re trying to do is take the text-onscreen experience and make it feel more real.”
OnePassword and other two-word applications are also coming to iOS and Android in the near future.
But for now, users should continue to use their old passwords, and remember to use a strong password for all accounts.
“The only thing that will change is the user experience,” Schulms said.
“If you want to go back to the two word experience, you’ll have to change your passwords every year.”
